Information, Education and Communication

The Information, Education and Communication (IEC) team takes the voice and views of HMRI to rural areas through various media platforms to impart basic awareness on various health related and allied issues including nutrition and hygiene.

The IEC team focuses on developing collaterals across all the media platforms (audio, audio-visual, announcements, publications, e-newsletters, e-posters and traditional media), identifying new platforms and networking with existing media and extension entities, including the Government of Andhra Pradesh and national verticals.

IEC team drew the first round of applause for the audio album “104 Bandi Patalu” for its content, music score and the down-to-earth theme. The album, released by former State Health Minister, M S Chandrasekhar, depicts health messages artfully weaved in to folk songs rendered by popular singers and penned by renowned writers.

Buoyed by the success of music album, IEC team developed a 104 Mobile Media audio visual capsule which was very well received and widely appreciated. The capsule is played on television screens of 104 Mobile vans at every service point and people attending the spot could hardly miss the film which has a strong message but told in a simple and native language to drive home the point. Health messages are juxtaposed on latest film songs and trailers to make it more impactful.

Subsequently, traditional media took centre stage with “Aata Paata” – a hybrid version of sound and light show and traditional Kalajatha. This was a very effective media platform that communicated healthcare messages to school children and rural people in their own folklore.

Other media platforms that IEC has been exploring include:

  • •Publications: Manchi Neeti Katha” – an excellent book on drinking water related issues, and “Doma Rakshasula Katha” – an e-book on mosquito related diseases.
  • •Weekly e-posters on health related issues to around 20,000 mail ids. The stunning success of this exercise was seen when of such e-poster was converted into a small hoarding in some villages.
